27 Sep Self Build and Custom Build Housing – Three Dragons publishes research paper
Although self-build and custom-build housing has a long history of development in UK, it has until recently played a limited role in the overall supply of new housing. The sector is however gaining momentum. Both the Self Build & Custom Housebuilding Act 2015 and the Housing & Planning Act 2016 have placed new duties upon local planning authorities in this respect, including duties to evidence demand for self build and custom build housing and to provide enough serviced plots to meet that demand.
Three Dragons has reviewed the initial progress of the eleven authorities appointed as vanguards by DCLG to produce a research paper. The paper looks at some of the early lessons learned in establishing registers and accessing land for self and custom house-builders and identifies some issues that need to be addressed as the industry expands.
